The Path to Female Self-Determination

Getting married often means beginning with idealised notions of love and partnership. Many people assume that love is automatically the foundation of every marriage. Yet sometimes marriages are formed without a deep emotional connection. This can lead to power struggles when expectations about roles or personalities clash.

After a separation, many people find that their relationship becomes more relaxed and that they become friends, as responsibilities and possessiveness fall away. Some then consciously choose to remain single, no longer wanting to adapt to a partner's individual habits and quirks.

The Weapon of Manipulation

It is important for women to consider how they can express their wishes and expectations clearly and effectively in order to receive the desired response or support from men.

Men and women differ significantly in their perceptions and communication styles, which often leads to misunderstandings. While men generally prefer clear, direct statements, women tend to communicate their messages more subtly and emotionally. This can trigger conflicts, as empathising with someone who thinks in a completely different way can be difficult.

The creation story symbolically illustrates these differences: Lilith, Adam's original partner, was created from the same clay as he was, while Eve was later formed from one of Adam's ribs. Had Lilith remained in her place, relationships might have been more equal and less conflict-ridden.

What Became of Lilith?

According to Hebrew tradition, Lilith refused to lie beneath Adam during sexual intercourse. When Adam made a scene, she transformed into a demon and flew away. This legend turns a wonderful goddess of creation into a veritable monster.

There is, however, also an Indian tradition. According to this account, Adam killed Lilith's beloved tiger. Although Lilith possessed the ability to heal all animals and save the tiger, she could not overcome her lover's betrayal and turned against him from then on. Since she had no children with him, she was able to live independently and on her own terms, for which she was nevertheless vilified.

Eve's Rebellion

When Eve bit into the apple, she did so consciously. The serpent – Lilith – did not seduce her but merely showed her a way out of the dilemma of constant submission and towards self-determination.

Eve's rebellion is an acknowledgement of Lilith!

Lilith is not an enemy but a friend and a role model for strong, independent women. Women with goals and desires who refuse to be diminished.

International Women's Day is also known as Women's Day of Struggle, as it symbolises the constant internal and external battles that many women experience. The assumption that men always have the answers and can be relied upon without question often leads women to underestimate their own strength and independence.

Once they see through this illusion and become aware of their disappointment, many women begin to stand up for themselves. They recognise the need to become stronger in their own right. They start actively resisting – whether through open confrontation or by distancing themselves emotionally.

This moment often marks the turning point at which many women begin to recognise their own strength and independence. This inner transformation is often the first step towards a more conscious life, in which they communicate their needs clearly and actively shape their relationships.

It is a process in which they learn to take responsibility for their own happiness rather than placing it in someone else's hands.

International Women's Day reminds us to continue this struggle for self-determination and equality, and to celebrate our own potential.

Taking Conscious Control

On this day, the focus should not be on outward glamour or recognition through grand gestures, but on honouring our own strength and celebrating the vision of the woman we want to become.

It is an opportunity to acknowledge the struggles that were necessary to move beyond naivety and consciously take control of our own lives.

The true essence lies in recognising that every woman has the ability to shape and strengthen her relationships through clarity, empathy and deliberate self-determination.
