What Truly Matters in Life
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is not just about a boy's journey through the universe, but also about the deeper understanding of what truly matters in life. The Little Prince leaves behind his rose and the sheep to explore the vastness of the infinite.
During his journey, he encounters many strange characters, including the fox, who teaches him an important lesson: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
Yet true understanding comes not only from meeting these characters, but also from leaving and finding one's way back. The Little Prince learns that true friendship and love are not immediately visible, and that they must be nurtured through patience and devotion.
Even the pilot he meets is initially just a stranger, but over time, a friendship grows between them, built on understanding and shared experiences.
Discovering New Facets, Learning New Lessons
I first read The Little Prince at school, and even then, I was struck by how much wisdom could be found in such a small, thin book. I was amazed that something so simple could contain such profound thoughts about life, love and relationships.
Years after leaving school, I kept thinking about this book. I read it again, and again. And each time, I discovered new facets, new lessons that I might not have noticed before.
The Little Prince and the philosophy woven into its pages are so much more than what we can see with our eyes. It's not just about the obvious story of a journey, but about what lies hidden between the lines: the meaning of friendship, love and returning to what truly matters to us.
Essentially, the book shows us that life isn't just about where we go or what we achieve, but also about what we leave behind and where we eventually return.
Life can pull us in so many different directions. We travel, meet new people and experience adventures. Yet in the end, it's the few people and relationships that truly touch us deeply, accompany us along the way and show us what real love and friendship mean.
Often, we only recognise these people when we return – to the place or to the people who have truly shaped us.
True wisdom often lies in simple truths.
The Little Prince reminds us that true wisdom often lies in simple truths. In the end, what matters are the people who genuinely love us and whom we need.
We often search for something better and drift away from those closest to us. Yet true understanding comes when we return.
Because so often, we already have everything we need – in the relationships we sometimes overlook.
